RMA School News - Jan 2018

The instructor team at Range Martial Arts and Range Martial Arts East would like to wish you and your loved-ones a happy holiday season! As the year is coming to a quick close, we would like to get out our first update for 2018. In an effort to try and keep everyone up-to-date with what is going on in each school, we are starting a school-wide newsletter. Our intention is to send these out each month via email through Kicksite as well as getting them posted here.

Range Martial Arts East

  • Reminder that there is no class on Monday, December 25 nor on Monday, January 1. Spend your time off with family and practice at home!
  • We are working on getting an order form put together for RMA East-branded apparel. There has been some miscommunication about pricing, so we are trying to get that all figured out. We are looking at pull-overs, full-zip sweatshirts, knit caps, scarves, and baseball caps for this order. More information will be available soon!
  • Our year-end specials are expiring soon! Take advantage of them now. More information on our website. Tell your friends, bring them to class, let them have fun with you!
  • Students are encouraged to log into the Kicksite accounts and utilize the Library section of the account. Students will be able to find videos and documents to supplement their training. Some of you may have seen Mr. Koivisto post about capturing curriculum on video - updates are coming for all programs soon.
  • Remember to check for announcements on our website, your email via KicksiteFacebookGoogle+, or twitter!

Tang Soo Do

  • January 8 is our first Bring-A-Friend night of the year. You can get a card from an instructor for your friend to bring to their guardian, or you can print out the form from our website on the event page.
  • January 27 is the date set for a southern-Minnesota black belt workout. You are encouraged to attend if you are able. More information will be available as the date approaches.
  • January 29 is our next student evaluation and testing. (The date was moved out a couple weeks because of the holidays.) This will be our first evaluation cycle to implement written test questions! The written portions will be given to the students that are NOT being evaluated for belt promotion. In order to be considered for promotion testing after this cycle, you will have to have passed your written test questions during a previous evaluation. White and orange belts will be able to take their test home the week before and use their student manuals. Green belts will be able to use their manual to take their test on evaluation day. Brown belts and higher will take their tests on evaluation day as well - no manuals allowed. This written portion of our testing cycle is meant to help better prepare you for black belt testing.
  • In addition to all these things, we are currently undergoing a heavy review of class plans, testing cycles, and curriculum in order to come up with a plan to help better serve our student base, keep our instructors sane, and raise the overall quality of training and instruction for you. We will follow-up with announcements in class and via Kicksite as information becomes available.
  • Mrs. Wickstrom has invited anyone from RMA East to attend Tang Soo Do classes on December 26th and January 2nd in Chisholm. Your attendance there will count toward your testing eligibility automatically, so remember to sign in there too!

Haidong Gumdo

  • Cutting in 2018 will be held Jan 1 @ 10am at the Range Center in Chisholm. We will go to Lake Street Bar & Grill for food afterward.
  • Giants Ridge Ski Night is coming! There has been talk about doing a get-together and spend a night skiing followed by some food. Details are still being worked out, but we are considering a Saturday evening mid-to-late January. If you are interested in participating, contact Master Koivisto - especially if you are not in the RMA East Gumdo conversation on Messenger.
  • Senior Chief Master Parnell is visiting Minnesota again in February! Event information and registration is live and can be found on the Midwest Haidong Gumdo event page.
  • Chief Master Frankovich will be visiting our school for gumdo training sometime in March or April, watch for more information!
