Classes Closed (COVID-19) Until Approval

Updated 5/14

Good day rmaeast students, instructors, and families. With the governor announcing shelter-in-place starting Friday, March 27 @ 11:59pm through Friday, May 18, we will be following with those recommendations to help lessen exposure chance. That being said, at rmaeast we will be offering alternatives to regular classes to help students stay on top of their training in hopes that we can continue a normal season schedule as much as possible.

Your Kicksite account allows you access to the "Library" where we have documents and videos including your school student manuals, Korean terminology, videos of the forms for your rank group, and drills (haidong gumdo program). These resources are always available for you, and hopefully you have been utilizing them already! Use these resources to help guide your practice at home. New videos may find their way into Kicksite over the following weeks as well. Any of our stream videos from Facebook or other sources will be posted in Kicksite as well.

Mr. Koivisto will be offering private lessons to those that want that extra guidance in their practice. These lessons will be held over Google Meet, Skype, Zoom, or Facebook Messenger, and must be scheduled with him via phone, text, email, Band, or Facebook Messenger. Lessons will be available in 20 minute time slots, up to an hour at a time. Lessons can be scheduled for individual students, or students that are members of the same family. Private lessons can be scheduled for any day of the week or any time slot that he can make work with you! You can see the current private lesson calendar on Mr. K's bio page.

Finally, because we have missed a number of weeks of classes, students and families will have their membership extended for the nine weeks that we were not able to hold classes. If you are a pay-per-class session student, this does not have an effect on you since classes will not be taken away from your membership. All of our seasonal dates will evaluated and adjusted in order to help students get back on track and continue their progress accordingly.

The latest Executive Order (20-56) signed by our governor on May 13, 2020 extends our location closure through May 31. Instructors are currently planning how we can move forward with classes once we are given the okay to use our facility. Schedules and memberships will need to be adjusted to work with any accommodations that are needed. During this time, The governor will release a plan for opening businesses by May 20. At that time we will reevaluate to see what we can do to reopen and start planning for recovery. Because we are a service-only based business, we have taken the hit of no income for what will be eleven (11) weeks of no classes. In addition, because we are extending tuition, we are taking a hit following opening for the same amount of time - effectively two seasons (half our year) of no income. We will continue to work to be able to keep the school open at our current location as long as funds allow.

If you have any questions about your membership, your training, curriculum, school items in general, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Koivisto.

From Management

As a small business that is 100% volunteer run, our options are a bit limited, and we appreciate the support our students and families have provided us over the past 30 years in the Iron Range communities. We are also grateful for the support of our students and families in our newest additional over the past few years since we opened rmaeast. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, do not hesitate to contact Mr. Koivisto or the owner of Range Martial Arts, Mr. Bryan Fagerstrom. Mr. Fagerstrom, has passed along a message for all students and families that attend classes at either of our school locations:

Greetings Range Martial Arts and Range Martial Arts East practitioners and instructors. I hope that each of you is doing well and can navigate these current conditions with good spirits and endurance. As I am sure you are all aware, the recent Corona (now known as COVID-19) pandemic has continued to spread here in Minnesota. While we understand that there are no current cases here on the Iron Range, experts indicate that it will make its way here. We are monitoring the recommendations set out by local, state, and federal agencies, have already increased the amount of disinfecting at our facilities, and have revised our current training models.

We will be moving forward with canceling all regular classes until March 27th when we can re-evaluate the situation. Range Martial Arts East and Range Martial Arts are each offering different options for learning, training, and opportunities to make up for missed classes, but all regular group classes have been canceled.

We want to provide encouragement during these difficult times. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your instructor or me personally if there are any needs that you have. This is a tremendous test of our indomitable spirit, wisdom, and ability to help one another. Please keep in contact with one another through social media, phone, texts, and emails. I pray for you, our communities, and our nation as we press through these trials, but I am confident in our success.
